Your Instructor
Get to know your instructor…
Hi, I’m Matt,
I started training as a driving instructor in the year 2000 and qualified in July 2002.
What made you want to become a driving instructor?
I was extremely fortunate to survive a high speed collision in the 80’s, back then most cars didn’t have rear seatbelts, I was a passenger in the car (back seat) and eye witnesses said I came out of the back window. There are moments I can’t remember and I certainly wouldn’t want it to happen to anyone hence my passion for teaching safe driving.
When did you qualify as a driving instructor?
I qualified in July 2002 and after working on a franchise for a few months I decided to go it alone. In 2006 I became employed at LVG ( now known as Red ), and was responsible for training people to become driving instructors.
Do you have any further qualifications?
Yes! I have passed the Cardington A special test. An advanced driving certificate that only around 2,000 people hold, I have also trained for and passed Ordit.
What does it take to pass a driving test these days?
The main thing is consistency. It’s the same as anything you want to achieve, if you practice it often enough you will succeed! Along with a good knowledge and understanding of the rules and regulations required to pass the driving test as well as the the theory test.
Why do you enjoy teaching people to drive?
As mentioned earlier, I’m extremely passionate about teaching safe driving due to my own awful experience. To take someone from never have driven before to passing their test, I can’t put into words how it makes me feel but it’s a truly amazing feeling.
